No complains

Normal healthy cuteeee babyyy.

Was youtube-ing last night and found some heartbreaking clips of baby with severe defects. The syndrome?
*Harlequin type ichthyosis*

Skin disease that is the most severe form of congenital ichtyosis characterized by a thickening of the keratin layer in fetal human skin. In sufferers of the disease, the skin contains massive, diamond-shaped scales, and tends to give off a reddish color. In addition, the ears, eye, mouth and other appendages may be abnormally contracted. The scaly keratin greatly limits the child's movement. Because the skin is cracked where normal skin would fold, it is easily pregnable by bacteria and other contaminants, resulting in serious risk of fatal infection.

Sufferers are known as harlequin fetuses, harlequin babies, or harlequins.

The chances of any one person with the disease producing a child who is also a sufferer would be about 1 in 2000 in UK.

*sources from wikipedia*

Not for the fainthearted. Click here and here to view how the baby looks like. Most of them don't survive more than 2 days after birth. How can a baby suffer all these?

Just proves that not everyone is lucky and is born at the pink of health and have a normal childhood. Should just thank God and be grateful for everything that we possessed :) Still it was something new for me as I haven't really know about this disease prior to viewing the vid.

Just so you're aware of it, harlequin is the most serious and rarest form of ichthyosis. There are maybe 3 kids a year born with Harlequin, if that. There are about 100-300 born with the more common, but equally devastating types. I'm a mom to an affected child, and YouTube's freak show pictures and commentary are very hurtful to parents I know with Harlequin babies. It also only serves to scare parents with other types because it is NOT representative of what most of us cope with. For some real information, try www.ichthyosis.com www.ichthyosis.co.uk and www.scalyskin.org
